The UA Cossatot Colts and Lady Colts rolled two significant victories in their season openers last night, November 1, at the UA Cossatot Bank Of Lockesburg Historic Gymnasium.
The Lady Colts used a big third quarter to blow open a close game and cruised to an 85-67 victory over the East Texas Baptist J-V. Amari Morrison led UAC with 14 points, Jacia Collins had 12, Mikayla Scott 11, and Ashley Starks added 10.
In the men's game, the Colts blew out the visiting Tigers 101-73. After falling behind 8-6, the Colts took an early timeout, then went on a 9-0 run, and never trailed again, leading 60-37 at the half. In his long-awaited Colts debut, Decorian Phillips led UAC with 26 points. Returning NJCAA 2nd team All-American Terry Anderson had 23, Dalon Dean scored 16, Shane Bell had 11, and Cortez Collins added 10, all in the first half.
Athletic Director and Head Coach Robert Byrd said, “It was a great opening night for our Colts and Lady Colts. Both teams started slow but picked up steam as the game went on. There was a nice crowd for both games and we look forward to that continued support at all home games!”
Next on the schedule for the Colts and Lady Colts is a Wednesday trip to Murray State College on November 3 in Tishomingo, OK.
