The UA Cossatot Colts and Lady Colts split a non-conference doubleheader at Dallas Christian College on Wednesday, January 19.
In the women's game, the Lady Colts fell behind early to Dallas Christian College and suffered their fourth loss in a row, a 75-58 decision. The Lady Colts began the game with only seven players and finished the contest with just four. Aaleya Morton led UAC with 16 points, including four second-half three-pointers. Kayla Fuller had 11 before fouling out. “Very tough loss for us in a game where I feel we had our chances. We have to get in the gym, get back to work, and be ready to take on a tough conference opponent Saturday,” said Head Coach and Athletic Director Robert Byrd.
In the men's game, the Colts set a UA Cossatot record for margin of victory as they rolled to a 133-43 victory over the Dallas Christian College JV. The Colts raced to a 65-18 halftime lead and hit the century mark with 10:30 remaining in the game on a basket by Layton Jackson. Terry Anderson led five Colts in double figures with 30. Dalon Dean added 26, including six three-pointers. DeCorian Phillips had 21, Jordan Wright 16, and Malik Nash chipped in with 14. “Our guys were locked in for 40 minutes, and it allowed for us to go deep into the bench and get guys necessary minutes,” said Byrd.
Next on the schedule is a pair of conference games Saturday, January 22, in Lockesburg as the Colts and Lady Colts host ASU-Mid South. As a special promotion this Saturday, UA Cossatot is allowing free admission to anyone wearing an item of UA Cossatot apparel, including hoodies, tee shirts, jackets, etc. The women will tip-off at 2:00 pm, the men at 4:00 pm.
