UA Cossatot students enrolled in Secondary Career Center high school programs and college level technical programs attended the annual Arkansas Skills USA Convention and Competition recently held in Hot Springs.
Students take a written knowledge test and hands-on skills test in their area of study. UA Cossatot students competed in five categories.
Pipe welding college student, Juan Martinez won a silver medal. High school student, Jase Bright competed in the Welding category.
Cosmetology high school students who competed include Alexis Bullock-Cosmetology Novice, Veronica Rodriguez-Esthetics, Brency Hernandez-Model for Esthetics, and Robin McBride-Model for Esthetics. College Cosmetology students included; Gabrielle Siracusa-Esthetics, Ellyn Walls-Esthetics, Carli Davis-Model for Esthetics, and Haley Madden-Model for Esthetics.
High school student, Elizabeth House competed in the Automotive Refinishing category. College student, Patrick LaCaze competed in Automotive Services.
Instructors attending this year’s convention included Sandra Griffin, Summer Markham, Toyia Witherspoon, Brad Smith, Josh Caudle, Wayne Kendrick, and Marvin Terrell. High School Programs representative Stephanie Harrison also attended the competition.
The Skills USA competition is held every April in Hot Springs.
