The UA Cossatot Colts and Lady Colts played against the South Ark Stars on January 8, 2022, at the UA Cossatot Bank of Lockesburg Historic Gym.
In the women's contest, the Lady Colts scored the first six points of the game and led 15-7 before South Ark went on a 24-0 run to take a 70-59 victory, ending UAC's five-game winning streak. Kayla Fuller led the Lady Colts with 21 points. Ashley Starks had 17, and Aaleya Morton added 13. “Not the way we want to open conference play, but there aren’t any off nights in conference play. We have to compete at a high level for 40 minutes,” said Athletic Director and Head Coach Robert Byrd.
In the men's game, the Colts fell behind 6-0 but raced to a 52-23 halftime lead and cruised to an 86-49 victory. Terry Anderson paced the Colts with 24 points and 17 rebounds. Dalon Dean, who came into the game ranked third in the nation in the three-pointers per game category, hit three threes and had a total of 17 points. Kamren Woods had 13, and DeCorian Phillips finished with 10. “It was a dominant defensive performance by our guys and a total team effort. We will need that type of contribution every night if we want to be as good as we think we can be,” said Byrd.
The next time out for the UAC roundballers will be Thursday, January 13, when they play host to North Arkansas Community College at the UA Cossatot Bank of Lockesburg Historic Gym. The Lady Colts tip-off at 5 pm, the men at 7 pm.
