In their final home games of the 2021-22 basketball season, UAC split a pair of conference matchups with National Park College Thursday night, February 17, dropping an 83-80 decision in the Lady Colts contest but taking the men's game 78-71.
In the Sophomore Night opener at the UA Cossatot Bank of Lockesburg Historic Gym, the Lady Colts and NPC were neck and neck all night long, with the Night Hawks getting the victory on four late free throws by Kayla Richardson of Grannis. The Lady Colts were led by Mikayla Scott with 24 points, all of them from beyond the three-point arc. Kayla Fuller had 22, and Aaleya Morton added 11. “Unfortunate loss for our team once again. I’m happy how we competed, but it’s time for us to learn to finish our games,” said Athletic Director and Head Coach Robert Byrd
In the men's contest, the Colts trailed by as many as 16 early but came on strong down the stretch to run their conference record to 5-4. Dalon Dean paced UAC with 24 points, including five three-pointers. DeCorian Phillips had 16, Malik Nash 15, and Terry Anderson finished with 12. “We started out extremely slow early in the first half, but our guys picked it up and were able to erase the 17 point deficit, giving us a chance to get it done in the 2nd half,” said Byrd.
This Saturday, February 19, the UA Cossatot teams close out the regular season on the road in West Memphis at ASU-Mid South. The Lady Colts will tip-off at 2 pm, the men at 4 pm. Due to Mid South's broadcasting policy, there will be no live stream coverage on ed88radio.com.
