The UAC Colts and Lady Colts walked away with victories Thursday night, November 18, in a pair of non-conference basketball games in Lockesburg.
The Lady Colts fought back from an 8 point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat Southern University - Shreveport 67-65. Amari Morrison led the way for UAC with 18 points. Also in double figures for the home team were Kayla Fuller with 15 and Khuyler Hardy with 11. “I couldn’t be more proud than to see our players show perseverance, being down 8 points with 7 minutes to go. They didn’t give up but instead chose to fight and leave with the win! I wouldn’t have it any other way,” said Athletic Director and Head Coach Robert Byrd.
In the men's contest, the Colts trailed the Jaguars 35-31 at the half but rolled to a 98-70 victory, thanks largely to a tremendous second-half performance by Dalon Dean. Dean had only two points in the first 20 minutes but finished with 27. Five other Colts also had double-digit performances, including Kamren Woods with 16, Decorian Phillips 15 (all from beyond the three-point line), Shane Bell 13, Terry Anderson 12, and Malik Nash 11. “Our guys weren’t ready to compete for the first 20 minutes. They kept it close but didn’t compete to the level that we expect. I challenged them at halftime, and they responded extremely well to that challenge,” said Byrd.
The UAC teams travel to Paragould Friday night, November 19, to take on the Crowley's Ridge College JV teams. The ladies tip-off at 5 pm and the men at 7 pm on ed88radio.com.
