The UA Cossatot men's and women's teams will head into the new year on a high note after wins in Little Rock on Saturday, December 11, and in Terrell, TX, on Monday, December 13.
Saturday, UAC swept a pair of non-conference games with the Arkansas Baptist JV teams. In the women's game, the Lady Colts trailed by seven at the half and by as many as 13 in the second half before storming ahead in the fourth quarter to take a 67-63 victory, their 4th straight win. Kayla Fuller had a big game for the Lady Colts, hitting six 3-pointers and finishing with 36 points and 11 rebounds.
In the men's game, the Colts used a balanced attack to wear down the Buffaloes and took home a 71-56 win to run their season record to 8-4. UAC was led by Kamren Woods' 19 points. Also in double figures were Dalon Dean 15 points (three 3-pointers), Terry Anderson 15 (14 rebounds, six assists, two steals), and Little Rock native Jacquorria Harris had 10.
Then on Monday afternoon, on the road at Southwestern Christian College, the Lady Colts won their 5th straight game, 60-58, avenging an earlier loss to the Lady Rams. Khuyler Hardy led the way for the Lady Colts with 18, while Kayla Fuller added 13.
In the men's game, the Colts ran their season record to 9-4 with a 76- 62 victory over the Rams. The Colts raced to an early lead, which they expanded to 38-21 at the half and coasted to the win behind a balanced scoring attack. Five Colts finished in double figures led by Kamren Woods' 17. Malik Nash had 14, Dalon Dean, who leads the nation in NJCAA Division II in total 3-pointers, had 13 (including three 3-pointers), while Terry Anderson and Shane Bell each had 10.
UAC head coach Robert Byrd said, "I am really proud of our teams for having the mental focus to go on the road and win two tough games before the break! We are looking forward to some time off with our families and can't wait to get back home in January to play in front of our Colts fans!"
The Colts' men's team will next see action on January 5th at 7 pm when they host Champions College at the UA Cossatot Bank of Lockesburg Historic Gym. The Lady Colts will open 2022 at home on Saturday, January 8, when they join the Colts in hosting SAU-Tech in the conference openers for UAC.
