Six UA Cossatot students graduated from the Phlebotomy Technician Program on Saturday, May 22, 2021. Graduates include Franchezca Butler, Kayla Harris, Kyron Starr, Angela Baker, Blanca Hernandez, and Shanika Wright.

This 90-hour Phlebotomy Technician Program prepares professionals to collect blood specimens from clients for laboratory analysis.  Students will become familiar with all aspects related to blood collection and develop comprehensive skills to perform venipunctures completely and safely. Classroom and lab work includes terminology, anatomy and physiology, blood collection procedures; specimen hands-on practice; and training in skills and techniques to perform puncture methods.

Tammy Coleman, Director of Public Services and Workforce Development said, “We’re proud of these graduates.  All have already sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) Exam.  As a phlebotomist, they will have the option to work in several healthcare settings and impact several patients each day.”

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for phlebotomists is expected to grow 17 percent from 2019 to 2029, quicker than the average for all occupations.
