UA Cossatot Colts and Lady Colts both won in regional tournament action last weekend. The Lady Colts played the National Park Nighthawks Friday, April 2 in Hot Springs and the Colts defeated the South Ark Stars Saturday, April 3 at the De Queen High School Coliseum.

In the women’s contest, the Lady Colts won 62-55 over National Park Community College. The Lady Colts picked up the first round tournament win to advance to the semi-finals vs ASU-Mid South. The Lady Colts expanded a 33-20 halftime lead to 21 points and held on for the victory. A'Nayzia Jefferson paced UA Cossatot with 17 points, Kyaira Jackson had 14, Laquesha Clark pitched in with 13 including two late buckets to seal the win.

Head Coach and Athletic Director, Robert Byrd said, “It was a big-time effort from our Lady Colts. We played the Lady Nighthawks at their place two weeks ago and could not hold onto the lead that we built throughout the first three quarters. It was exciting to see us turn the page and make the necessary plays to get it done, giving us our first postseason victory in program history.”

In the men’s game, the Colts won over South Arkansas Community College 79-55. The Colts won the first round tournament game and will face ASU-Mid South in the semi-finals. Terry Anderson led the Colts with 20 points as UA Cossatot defeated South Ark for the third time in three weeks. Kamren Woods finished with 17, Dillon Cheated had 15, and Dee Williams tossed in 11 for the Colts, who appeared in their first-ever NJCAA Division II Region 2 Tournament.

“We came out very flat and really didn’t play Colts basketball early on. As the game progressed, we picked up our urgency enough to get the win. It was great for our men’s program to capture their first postseason win in program history as well but we will need to be sharper headed into West Memphis on Tuesday night,” said Byrd.
