Tamla Heminger was recognized as UA Cossatot’s Teacher of the Year at the Little River Chamber of Commerce Banquet on Thursday, May 27.
Tamla received her Occupational Therapy degree from LSU in 1991 and a Master’s in Education from the University of Arkansas in 2014. She has worked as an Occupational Therapist for over 30 years.
Tamla began her post-secondary education at UA Cossatot in 2012 as a part-time instructor for OTA. Two months following her initial hire date, Tamla was selected as the new OTA Program Director. She juggles her responsibilities in the classroom with her program director duties while working hard to ensure OTA students understand not only the concept of Occupational Therapy but clinical practice as well. In addition, she creates opportunities for her students to provide community service outreach projects to the surrounding communities. Tammy is also very engaged in best practices for distance education.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ashley Aylett stated “Tammy is a tremendous asset to the OTA program and the entire college. We are fortunate to have excellent instructors at UA Cossatot with Tammy being one of those outstanding faculty members.”
