UA Cossatot held its first annual Nursing skills Competition for LPN Nursing students on March 15, 2019. Approximately fifty-one LPN students and ten nursing instructors participated in the event at the Adams Building on the De Queen campus. Students were able to select events at the competition. The events included prepared speaking, CPR, an anatomy and physiology exam, an anatomy and physiology game, a medical terminology exam, and a performance of a specific nursing skill.
Following the competition, first and second place winners in each category were awarded during an awards ceremony.
Winners include: Prepared speaking: Ashley Smallwood, first place; Ashley Crocker, second place. CPR (2-person competition): Stormie Garza and Ashley Coleman, first place; Leidy Aparicio and Sandybel Aparicio, second place. Anatomy and physiology exam: Lauren King, first place; Kaili Walker, second place. Anatomy and physiology game: Veronica Castro, first place; Jennifer Howard, second place. Medical Terminology: Angel Espinoza, first place; Kaylynn Brasel, second place. Perform nursing skill: Selena Leon, first place; Adriana Figueroa, second place.
Due to positive student feedback, the Medical division plans to continue the event in the future.
