The Central Arkansas Development Council (CADC) currently serves 19 counties in Arkansas, including Sevier. With the help of UA Cossatot Center for Student Success Coordinator, Erika Buenerrostro, the CADC will be providing more services in Sevier County to help its residents.

CADC began in the 1960s and continues to operate today based on the mission of alleviating the causes and conditions of poverty. The council aims to help vulnerable populations achieve their potential and to build strong communities in Arkansas through community action.

This past year, Erika Buenerrostro was invited to become a board member of CADC. After attending meetings and learning about services they provide, Erika has expressed to the Council that Sevier County has a great need for these services.

Erika stated, “CADC serves Sevier County, but many people living here are unaware of what all they can do for people who qualify. CADC offers help to families who need it, and the number of families benefiting from such services are not many.  Having a permanent location in Sevier County would help change that.  My goal is to provide these services to our residents of Sevier County while at the same time creating more job opportunities. Those who qualify can receive help with strategic planning, identification of local resources, educational resources, nutrition, tax assistance, transportation, utility assistance, and weatherization.”

As 2020 progresses, Erika will continue to represent Sevier County as an active board member of CADC.  The CADC office will be housed at UA Cossatot on the De Queen Campus, which will be a crucial location for students of the college.
